My mother in law, has dementia as well as being very elderly and frail. When my father in law was hospitalised we needed to find her immediate respite care as Olive could not have coped at home even with the existing social care package. Broad Acres was the only local option and we were extremely grateful that they were able to accommodate her as she would not have been safe or happy at home. Our experience was very positive, for example the day after my mother in law arrived, I visited and asked at the door where I could find her, the member of staff knew her by name, and knew where I would find her and what she would be doing. The facilities at Broad Acres are quite ordinary, but we always felt that the staff were caring, kind and friendly. My mother in law's life at home had become difficult and diminished and for the time that she was resident in Broad Acres, we felt that she was safe and was being looked after. In her younger days she was a skilled homemaker, mother and wife. But in recent years in own home she has struggled with much of the domestic routine. In Broad Acres, she had clean clothes, staff made sure that her hair looked nice and she had a variety of food suited to her palette. She also enjoyed the company of other residents, staff and visitors. Before writing this review, I have read the CQC report published earlier this year. Homes like Broad Acres are entrusted with people's loved ones so it is extremely important that they are carefully scrutinised and clearly there is room for improvement. However, for us the most important thing was that we felt confident that my mother in law was being looked after by caring people who treated her with dignity and kindness. |
