I was referred here as an NHS patient in September 2016 for a foot injury which had previously been diagnosed but (due to my work commitments) never treated at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The first consultant I saw from September to January said they disagreed with this diagnosis and began treating me for something else. This treatment included an extremely painful injection in November into my foot which actually made matters worse rather than better. After explaining this to the consultant in January I was just told to come back in three months, no further treatment or suggestions were made. I explained, for the hundredth time, there is little or no recall of patient history in my experience, that my career (from which I have had to take a break due to the worsening injury) depends on my being active and mobile and that waiting three months after already waiting five really was not an option. The consultant then said I would have to start seeing a foot specialist, which they wasnt, even though I had a foot injury and the consultant had never mentioned this before, just went ahead with changing the diagnosis and treating what they thought was the problem. When I eventually saw the new specialist they said their colleagues diagnosis was wrong, the original diagnosis was correct but advised doing an MRI and CTSPEC as well and also that the injection that had been done had been into the wrong part of my foot. I then had an MRI appointment cancelled 5 minutes before I was due to have it, hospital is a 40 drive from my base, with no apology. So here I am, unable to continue my career, in pain and no closer to treatment or even an accurate diagnosis.
In terms of positives: the hospital is very clean, you dont have to pay for parking and you get free tea and coffee. Aside from that, I cant think of any.
