I attended this morning to have what I thought was a scheduled tooth whitening procedure, of which I’d waited almost two weeks for. However it was only the short consultation and then I would be expected to return again for the treatment. This is arranged for next week. On the whole it was quite average but I got the distinct impression that cancer patients like myself don’t attend very often but then nor do we go about with a big notice stuck to us, just so people can forewarn their immodest sensibilities which have no place in the NHS anyway. Also, considering dentists have had the monopoly on treatment and charging for a very long time in the U.K., more credit should be apportioned to patients whether NHS or private for their own efforts when balancing the difference between cost and need. So, when patients private or otherwise, attend your surgery requesting a certain treatment, you can be sure they can afford it and you don’t need to assume any different. I was also quoted £550 for the exact same treatment at another dentist in Cumbria, pathetic, and really its barely worth what you’re charging even though it’s on a discount.
