My previous experience of NHS dentists has been pretty good and to be fair to the dentists and dental nurses here, they were very thorough and I was pretty happy. My disappointment is associated with the receptionist. Without sounding harsh, I don't think she realizes how she comes across when dealing with customers. Every time I've been, she's come across very rude and gives a general feeling of, "I couldn't care less about you, just take a seat and wait your turn." Regardless, I tried to ignore this at the start. During my last visit, she told me they were at least 30 minutes behind. I couldn't wait an extra 30 minutes due to my 4 month old daughter being in care. I asked why she didn't call to let me know, as I could have cancelled the appointment and not driven 25 minutes to get there for nothing. Her response was, "that's just what you get with an NHS dentist". I felt this was actually a failing on her part in not doing her job properly. She asked if I wanted to reschedule, I replied, "no thank you" and left. I won't be using this dentist again, unfortunately this is due to the receptionist, not the dentist... Further, my wife has just had an inlay fitted, and paid the additional cost for private care. The first appointment went well, however, the second appointment was a bit of a disaster and took over 2 hours due to part of her tooth breaking whilst the inlay was being fitted. She has just called to ask for the fitting to be fixed because it has been 3 days and she's still in discomfort and can't close her mouth properly because the inlay is sitting too high. Once again, the receptionist didn't deal with the situation very well. The receptionist tried to say she was going to have to wait a month...until her next appointment. This really upset me, that my wife is in discomfort because the dentist has not done his job correctly, yet the receptionist was expecting my wife to just put up with the discomfort. I made my wife argue it and the receptionist called back and said they can get her in today to deal with it. And this should have been the response from the start, not trying to make her wait until May. |

arrived early for a 0930 appointment
at 0950 no word why i was sitting waiting waiting waiting
so voted with my feet and left
so neither of 2 receptionist could say 'sorry for the delay and it will be an extra x minutes
not the first time here where i was treated as a number in a process
i would be delighted to serve these people and deliver the same discourteous uncustomer focussed experience
dentists are excellent by the way
not necessary and very poor |

I had recent chase texts for a check-up, but booked in anyway, as felt a small cavity in a rear molar. As always when dealing with all staff at this Hungerford practice, it was excellent. The ever likeable and professional dentist discussed my issue, we agreed the fix and job done superbly as always. Thank you all for your continued exemplary service.
