My daughter has been a patient since she was around 3 years old. When her permanent teeth started coming through her baby's teeth were still there. NHS Dentist COMMENT: if the baby tooth is left too long, it can cause gum inflammation and impede the eruption of the adult tooth. Call your paediatric dentist to see if the baby tooth needs to be removed. Every six month we would go for a check-up, and I would ask them to remove the baby teeth because it was causing pain, discomfort and some bleeding, she also couldn't eat apples or other harder food. They only removed the baby teeth, when I told them that I was not leaving the treatment room till they did so. Thanks to them her adult teeth are crooked and look terrible. She was finally referred to the Orthodontics, this was as I recall being around 2 years ago. I was told that the waiting list for braces was about 2 years, maybe a little shorter. It has now been around 2 years since then and my daughter was excited about finally getting the treatment. Now we are being told that we have only been in the queue for around 1 year and that the queue is now an additional 5 years on top to wait, she is devastated. This also means that when she would finally get to the front of this queue, she will be too old for NHS free-of-charge treatment. They offered us the chance to go private with a 50% discount on the price for the treatment around £2500 (with discount), but when I did some research the treatment without discount is £2999 with another dentist. |
