I have been with this practice now for approximately ten years and can honestly say that I haven't a bad word to say about any of the people who work here from the doctors to the receptionists who are so friendly and helpful. For someone like me who has a lot of trouble going out alone this makes such a difference to me. Whenever I have needed help or advice all at the surgery have gone out of their way for me. I really appreciate their service.

Joining the practice some 5 years ago, I was extremely disturbed by the strict adherence to the 10 minute rule. Consultations have been cut short and raising concerns about more than one condition did cause noticeable change in attitude and delivery. There is evidence which greatly colours patient attitude to respect and confidence. These Gp's seem incapable of taking pressure which is detrimental to the care of people with complex medical problems. They tend not to listen and more intent in typing notes into the computer. There is a lack of tack and diplomacy which leaves you feeling put down and not treated with the respect you deserve. It's like going into battle not only with the Gp's but also with some of the office employees. One needs to prepare for the consultation and expect to be cut short, i.e the 10 minute target. I could go on but let it be sufficient to say, levels of confidence and satisfaction are low. Patients are very often, reluctant to complain, fearing reprisals, which fears undermine results of past surveys of satisfaction. I would take the results of surveys, with a "pinch of salt"

Dear Anonymous Thank you for your comments that you recently left on the NHS website following a recent visit to Verwood Surgery. Myself and the GP's were very sorry to learn that you are upset following a recent visit to the surgery. I understand that you felt the 10 minute appointment slot was not long enough to deal with your current more complex medical needs. Whilst I and the GP's at Verwood Surgery appreciate what you are saying, unfortunately it is very difficult to strike a happy balance that suits all patients. GP's and Nurses have to try and keep to surgery times as much as they can as there are other patients also booked in to see their GP or Nurse who want to be seen at their allocated appointment time. The Practice policy, which is normal in most UK GP surgeries, is that a normal appointment slot is for 10 minutes for one problem. However if a patient feels that they have multiple problems to discuss we are happy for patients to ask the reception/administration team to book a double appointment slot. Any patient that does have multiple problems who is booked into a 10 minute slot , the GP would normally prioritise what needs to be dealt with immediately and ask the patient to book a future appointment with a longer time slot. As you may be aware there are extraordinary pressures on the NHS and GP services presently, and all staff continue to work for the best interests of their patients in difficult circumstances. If you wish to discuss this further either over the telephone or face to face please contact with either myself, Karen Holcombe Practice Manager or if I am not here, my Deputy Practice Manager, Marcia Russell on 01202 825353. Kind regards Karen Holcombe, Practice Manager
