I have attended this excellent surgery for the last 25 years. I became ill with a severe throat infection on New Year's Eve with severe headaches, acute throat pain and restricted ability to swallow. Feeling extremely unwell I saw a practise GP two days later. She examined me thoroughly and declared it was likely to be a virus, take painkillers and expect to improve. She appeared to be sticking to her flow chart of how to conduct a consultation in the required time and I felt had not really listened to me and my concerns, so I left feeling very ill and none the wiser as to how to get better. I have rarely visited the surgery myself over the years and the times I have been were for when I felt really ill.
One week later and 9 days after symptom onset, having been in bed , unable to eat very much other than pain killers to try and reduce the severity of discomfort in my throat, I returned to the surgery again. The symptoms had lessened but I still felt extremely unwell. This time I saw a locum GP who immediately introduced himself to me and had a warm, friendly demeanour. He did not follow a set examination protocol, but instead listened to my concerns and reacted to what I told him. He exhibited empathy and concern which in itself made me feel better, but he then went on to discuss treatment options with me thereby involving me in my own course of treatment. He did prescribe antibiotics based on my symptoms and whether or not as a result of the tablets, I am now starting to feel better.
The main reason for giving this feedback is to underline how important the GP response to their patients is. Listening to the patient is key and involving the patient in decisions. Showing empathy and concern goes a long way to helping a patient feel listened to.
Overall this is an excellent practise and has looked after me and my family well over the years, but I hope the ever diminishing budget doesn't mean this surgery loses its ethos of patient first approach.
Thank you to the lovely locum GP who has made me feel better. |

From the doctors, to the administration staff and all in-between, this surgery has offered a service over the past 31 years that has been full of care, professionalism, courtesy, honesty and friendliness and understanding. A surgery staffed by those who have the ethos of going the extra mile for their patients and who consider us, not as just patients, but of friends. |

Like most Doctors surgeries they are friendly, polite and accommodating, but over the years I have been in many a surgery and not all can be called a Family Practice. But this one really is, the Doctors, the Nurses and all the staff go that extra mile to help, to answer all your questions and make you feel at ease. This really is a Family Practice. |
