So, I made an appointment to see the gp to go through my blood test results, all normal readings, so told there is nothing wrong with you. I explained that I still have the same symptoms, was told I need to loose weight. Diagnosis would make sense had my symptoms not gone away after treatment last year, no weight change for the last 5 years. Only when I pushed further did the gp agree to do further blood tests, ones that I suggested should be checked because of my family history. Was rudely told that the gp could only give me information that was on the screen and why would they suggest further tests when everything on the screen was normal???? Even suggested that my symptoms were psychological, I'm sorry but I have better things to do with my time than sit there making up symptoms and wasting my time with this gp. Will be moving to another practice as soon as possible |

I have seen the same doctor in the morning and then in the late afternoon. You will a difference. They are people who also get tired and irritable like all of us. We have moods and we have emotions and so do they.
It is high time the NHS use its wealth of doctors knowledge and experience and build a working AI machine to support diagnosis. This was work with the GP and the GP has the final say. The AI machine will learn and improve. The UK is poised for such an adventure.
10 minutes is not enough for taking a complete history of complex issues which co-exist in a person. It took Bupa Occupational Health GP 1.2 hours to gain a full history of my life and the knock on effects of my life at 43 years of age. Even I learnt something in the process.
There are posters telling people that you should book one appointment for one diagnosis. This is silly if the receptionists system is unable to accommodate this in a single call. I was asked to call back a book another appointment. Patients should be allowed to book 2-3 consecutive appointments to a maximum of 30 minutes for complex issues. GP's should be able to grade a patient file based on previous visits suggesting patients will need a 20 minute appointment rather than a 10 minute appointment.
I a lucky that I recognise which doctor is better at supporting a particular set of ailments than others due to my background in science. You may say they should all be the same but again that is just plain silly as we are all fundamentally unique and there is not othe like me. Sure the body works the same but the mind is the unique thing that doctors have to interface with knowing that the mind is not exactly a calibrated measure of anything.
