We here so many complaints about the Health Service in England that I felt the need to write my story in an attempt to redress the balance. I write as an ex Chairman of a local NHS Trust, a job I enjoyed, working alongside a team of dedicated Health Care Professionals, providing an excellent service to the people of Barnsley. I also was the Chairman of local Hospice, being responsible, with others for the building of the Day Care Centre. The Hospice now has an in patient unit. I write this as an introduction to demonstrate my background in Health Care and to see the service both as a patient and someone with managerial experience within the NHS. I have been attending my local surgery in Wombwell for a number of years and have been impressed by the way the service is run, being totally patient centred, starting with the reception and continuing with the treatment and care provided by the Doctors, Sisters, Nurses and Admin staff. I recently had to attend the surgery for my regular Hypertension tests which included taking a blood test and other procedures. Following these tests I was called back to allow the nursing staff to take further BloodTests as theDoctor was concerned that certain of the readings were not within the acceptable range. I attended a number of consultations with one of the Nurse Practioners namely, Sister Willows. During these consultations a number of changes were made to my tablet regime which have resulted in the readings now becoming within the normal medical range. I share this story as the swift, prompt and caring action of Sister Willows as prevented any anxiety on my part as to whether there was an underlying problem. I was very appreciative of the attention to detail shown by Sister Willows, , the result being a very positive outcome. I am sure that my experience will be shared by many patients at this practice and I hope that they will be prompted to voice there appreciation as the staff in the NHS are under pressure to meet the ever increasing demand from the general public. I feel that the NHS in general and my surgery in particular do an excellent job and the public should value this service. |

We left our family Dr of 40 years and were very apprehensive about the impeding change.
Chaplefield is FANTASTIC. My wife and I, both in our late 70's cannot sing its praises loud enough.
I hear stories from friends at other practices around SY who may have to wait two or in some cases 3 weeks to see a Dr. Only this morning I went down to the center at 8-30am with a torn big toe nail. Reception immediately fixed me up to see a Sister at 9am. The nail was removed and another appointment to check progress arranged for this coming Friday.
We cannot imagine a better service in the UL. |
