I had to take my 92 year old mother for a chest X-ray in June. Parking was easy and we found the X-ray department without too much trouble. The members of staff were lovely, they were considerate and friendly and we didn’t have too long a wait for the x-ray to be done.
So, why haven’t I given the experience a 5 star rating? Well, we were told that we would get the results in two weeks! Two weeks for the result of a chest x-ray in a first world country? Surely this could be improved! I felt my mother would either have recovered or died in two weeks – she is 92 after all, and time is of the essence!

Thank you for taking the time to send in your feedback, we are pleased to hear that you generally felt the service you received was good and the staff friendly and helpful. We would like to reassure you about the timeframe you were given for receiving results for x-rays. If anything of concern was noted at the time of the examination, this would be immediately escalated for advice to one of the Consultants. Images are reviewed within 24hrs of the appointment and again if anything of concern was identified action would be taken. When an image is reviewed, a report is generated and if this is reported as normal it will be sent to the referrer within 72hrs of the examination being taken. If there is something identified on the image, dependent on what that is and the subsequent outcome, this may be discussed or referred for further imaging. It is the referrer that provides the outcome to the patient and therefore the normal advice of ‘around 2wks’ is given to accommodate the timeframe to send the report to the referrer and for them to contact the patient.
