I have always used Specsavers but upon discovering that Asda offered the lens thinning and coatings as part of the glasses price (as opposed to an add-on) I decided to try them. The eye test was good, my daughter had one at the same time and the optician was great with her. I chose two frames from their 2 for £120 range and was dealt with by a gentleman who was very helpful. At this point I was very much looking forward to my glasses. This changed when I picked them up. The woman who gave them to me just showed them to me and handed them over. I didn’t inspect them properly until I returned home. I have never had a pair of glasses that have creaked before and now I have two noisy pairs. The lenses are sticking out past the rim and the arms are not straight. I went back to the store and dealt with a woman who “inspected” them. She said that the lenses were in enough and the reason the lenses were sticking out was because I had different strengths in each eye so the lens depth varied. If you are thinning the lenses why wouldn’t you make them both the same depth? -Specsavers manage to do it! I showed her my old pair as an example and she didn’t say anything. Not happy with that response I then moved onto the creaking. She said they will probably stop when I wear them more and if I have issue then I will need to book in with the manager. So I have uneven lenses that don’t fit in the frame and sound terrible when I wear them. They certainly are not as well made as the sample pairs they have in the store. So I guess I’ll be wearing these until the lens inevitably falls out and have multiple repairs for the next year when my warranty runs out and I end up buying new pairs from another optician. If you are thinking about saving money just remember- you get what you pay for!
