In 2 years of Boots Forest Hall being responsible for ordering my repeat prescriptions they've managed to make what should be a simple process into a difficult one so many times I've asked them to withdraw the service. A simple but vital prescription, to be dispensed every 8 weeks, has suffered from the following: incorrect number of tablets being dispensed, leaving me short of medication; incorrect ordering dates for repeat prescriptions, again leaving me short of medication, and the straw that broke the camel's back; not being able to sort a simple problem with a prescription which was their fault in the first place, but trying to blame the GP surgery! It had been agreed that, as they were incorrect in their ordering date last time (trying to order at 12 weeks, not 8) they would explain to the GP surgery that their mistake had left me with no buffer of medication so the next one would be ordered early. They clearly didn't do this as the GP surgery contacted me to find out why I'd requested an early order! Once I explained, GP receptionist said that would be fine. OK the fact that the GP surgery may not have then issued the prescription isn't Boots' fault (and is something I will be following up with them), but given that the original mistake was Boots I naively expected they'd follow it up as to why they hadn't received it? No, so now yet again I don't have enough medication. A system which could be very easily totally computerised is too reliant on messages passed between weekend staff and weekday staff on scrappy little pieces of paper, with too much scope for staff error. Unless you're prepared to do all of the following up at every stage in your own time, I'd go so far as to say it's dangerous to rely on Boots to do your prescription ordering. The pharmacist was prepared to issue me with medication without the prescription, but didn't even have enough of what is a fairly common tablet in stock to issue the full prescription. |
