This is my second review for Sheridan House. My review of February 2016 followed the death of my mother at Sheridan, and a year later I am describing my dad's life there before his recent death. Their later lives were made very happy indeed by the staff, and as I was a daily visitor for more than 2 years, I was able to get to know many of the residents too. Sheridan is a warm, safe and caring home. I was astonished at the skill and professionalism of all the staff when my father was going through tough times towards the end. There was a positive solution to everything - and they had time to advise and support me too! Dad continually said " I am a very lucky man". He was so fond of all the caring staff, the catering staff, and he enjoyed all the beautifully organised activities . The garden and its views , the barbecues, the fountain, were all a great pleasure to him. And I shall miss my visits now! |

The Comment Title is what my dad said quite spontaneously just a few days after losing my mum. Both in their late nineties, they had been together at Sheridan for nearly a year. The rooms are bright and modern, the food is good, and the atmosphere is relaxed and very friendly, but professional at all times. And when dad said this, the staff member replied " and we are very happy to have you here". Mum had been treated with love and the utmost dignity until the end of her life, and now dad is warmly supported. As a very regular visitor, I have noticed how each resident is treated appropriately and encouraged to live life in his/her own way. Nothing ever seems to be too much trouble for the staff... mum was a bit of a poet and called the carers " her Blue Angels"
I have my name down on the waiting list.... |

I never thought I would be lucky enough to end my days in such delightful circumstances. There are about 25 of us. We have large rooms with excellent furnishings -or we can bring our own. A big, sunny dining- room with good food. A choice of main courses, wine with our lunch and home-made cakes for tea. A light supper and the ability to get alternative dishes. Sheridan is part of the Eden Alternative scheme, so we are treated as adults with minds of our own. There are numerous activities to be enjoyed when we want. Bridge, whist, art, music, discussions, knitting, nattering and trips all over the area,
The Staff are delightful. The care could not be better. The view is pretty good too! I have lived here for three years. |
