Due to the very nature of care homes, a family tend only to come in contact with them when a loved one is in difficulty. I recently found myself in this situation, as with many families children often live miles away from their parents, and in my case my father lives in Blackpool and I live in North Norfolk. Within a matter of weeks my father’s health and mental well-being had deteriorated dramatically, and so we needed the help of the adult services within Blackpool Council. A social worker was assigned to us, and within a few hours of arriving at my father’s home they quickly realised that the support that he needed could no longer be given by my stepmother and therefore he needed to be moved into a home, and so the difficult decision to find a suitable home was made. The King Edward care home were able to take my father at short notice. The support that we received from the staff the day that he arrived at the home was exceptional. Their calm professionalism was reassuring and compassionate particularly when dealing with my father and stepmother. I cannot praise enough the level of support and service that we have received, and we now have the peace of mind knowing that my father is safe and having all his needs taken care of with great dignity and professionalism. This allows us to enjoy quality time with him as a family, rather than spending that time as carer’s.

My father was admitted into this residential home as an emergency admission, my dad is terminally ill I cannot praise the staff enough. At that moment we were at crisis point and his wife could not look after him any longer his needs were beyond a small knit families remit. All the staff are caring and the rapport they have with the residents is amazing. The manager and one of the carers are amazing and nothing was to much trouble. I cannot put into words how much they have helped us through this extremely difficult time and I am sorry they are no longer able to attend to my fathers complex needs. I will never forget the compassion and commitment shown to both yourselves and more importantly my dad. If I could give you all a million pounds I would but know that it would never be enough to thank you for your help in our difficult journey you are all truly amazing!
