After a period of staff turnover, especially in senior key roles, Orchard House is now in a very strong position to continue its ethos of offering a very high quality, family orientated care service.
With a new manager and head nurse in place this will complement the excellent service of Orchard House's many experienced and loyal care and support staff.
Credit should also be given to the volunteers who give up their free time to participate in the residents' activities. Many of them have had family members living in the home previously and it is a credit to Orchard House that they come back every week to help the other residents.
Whenever I go in to visit my twin brother I am always warmly welcomed and never leave without a smile on my face. |

What makes Orchard House so special is the dedicated care and attention that the staff give to their residents.
When my brother, who is normally a full time resident at Orchard House, was in hospital he mentioned every day his desire to "return home" and "sleep in his own bed". He was very keen to get back to see the staff, whom he sees as part of his family.
I understand he received a hero's welcome on his return and all the staff rushed to his room to see him. Indeed when I had called in before to collect some clothes and toiletries for him, it took 15 minutes to get to his room as everyone was anxious to know how he was doing.
Orchard House really is a home from home. |

The Activities Co-ordinator is renowned for introducing a wide variety of entertaining, stimulating and enjoyable afternoon sessions to Orchard House . But on Sunday 3 September the bar was raised even higher as the Activities Co-ordinator sang to the residents, beautifully accompanied by a band member on an amplified acoustic guitar.
Here, after a quick sound check to ensure the volume was correct and not too loud. the dining room resonated with the Co-ordinator's uplifting voice performing a range of evergreen standards from Dolly Parton, Adele, Small Faces and Leonard Cohen. It was a pleasure to see the residents and their families keeping time and singing along to "Jolene" and" Hallelujah".
Once again Orchard House has shown that its excellent staff are dedicated to making the residents' lives as rewarding as possible. |
