Oakridge House Care Home with Nursing

On behalf of myself and my siblings I would belatedly like to thank all the staff at Oakridge for their excellent care of our mother Phyllis. She had to go into a care home as she required 24/7 care following a stroke, and she had lost the use of her legs which was extremely distressing for her. As a result of the excellent care and physiotherapy she received at the home she managed to walk again with the use of a walking frame which was a great achievement as the hospital had advised that she would never do so. Following her stroke she could sometimes be a bit 'difficult' which was completely out of character, but these times were managed with kindness and patience by all the care home staff right up until her death in July 2017. We would also like to thank all those members of staff who made the effort to come along to her funeral in their own time. Thank you again to all the staff.

To each and every one of you here I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for the care, kindness and compassion you have all shown to both my Dad and also to all my family members. I was honestly somewhat distressed with the reality that my Dad needed to go into a care home finally, mainly due to past experiences, but this care home is a shining star amongst care homes and has exceeded any expectations I could have had. It’s clean and pleasant, but most importantly the people working here make the biggest difference to the residents and families. Nothing is too much trouble, people genuinely care and have a level of kindness, consideration and empathy I have not personally experienced before. Staff have always come into my Dads room so politely and friendly, asking if we needed anything, drinks, support, offering kind words and empathy… they truly are amazing. For what has been (for me anyway) quite a harrowing experience visiting, the sense of foreboding built up before a visit because I never knew quite knew how my Dad would be and we sensed things were coming to a close. Each time however, I reconciled in my own mind that I needed to be there for Dad and when here I was immediately at ease talking to one particular member of staff and so many other kind people. Each one of you, every one of you, has made such a difference and made a difficult time as pleasant as it could be. You are such a credit to what you do, you have something very special here and you should be very proud of how this home is run. I have been really concerned about social care overall in this country through previous experiences of respite care for Dad for the years that Dad had been deteriorating, but the way Oakridge House operates gives us hope that things can improve. So, finally, I want to say thank you very much for all your kindness and please do keep doing what you are doing because what you are doing is so valuable and makes such a massive difference to peoples lives. Thanks again (I can’t say it enough times!)

When I went to view the Oakridge Nursing Home as an option for my grandmother I was all prepared to hate it - Just my own stupid prejudice about what an NHS care home would be like. How wrong I was. The home was clean, smelt good, the rooms are lovely, as are the communal areas. Since my nan moved in my gratitude and admiration for the care that is provided has only grown. All the staff, at every level are amazing and make a huge effort to know all of the residents, their likes, dislikes and engage with them in such a caring and nurturing way. As a visitor I love that when I visit quite literally every member of staff I pass ALWAYS gives me a smile ands says hi. My only fly in the ointment is that sometimes the food doesn't look very appetising ... but that may be because it has to be liquidised for my Nanna, so hard for the best chef to work with that!! I could not recommend this facility highly enough and am so glad this is where my beloved Nanna will see out her days.
