This used to be the University Dental Service but became a private practice a few years ago. I understand it has changed hands at least once and I was a little apprehensive after reading the negative reviews on this site. I'm retired and a visiting academic these days. On one of my visits to Cambridge I broke a tooth with several days to go before my return home. I rang for an emergency NHS appointment and was given an appointment 24 hours ahead (I think). However the practice rang back shortly after and said they could fit me in after a cancellation in 2 hours time. I was seen by Dr Haider as an NHS patient. She explained clearly what the options were: a simple patch to get me home under the NHS; a new amalgam filling on NHS terms (£62.10); or a new composite filling on private terms (£110). She explained that in her view the composite was better because the tooth was near the front and for other clinical reasons. However she was very clear that the decision was mine and gave me a few minutes to think about it. I took the composite filling and she did an excellent job. The tooth felt normal within a few hours and I was able to carry on with my visit without significant interruption. |

I had to attend as a tooth had broken following a bicyle accident - very friendly recpetion and careful arrangement of appointments to suit - outstanding pain free dental care and attention to getting replacement tooth just right - inspired great confiednece and I consider myself lucky to be on the books

Visited this dentist over Easter bank holiday weekend. A filling had fell out and I was in desperate need of help as the pain was excruciating. Arrived at appointment time of 8.45 on Sunday morning and had to wait thirty minutes outside with the receptionist and other patients as the dentists were coming from London and the train was late. All of them??
When we did manage to get in I basically had to sign my life away. Had to sign about 15 different forms in order to even be seen. Pretty much all saying the same thing. Why it could not all be on one long form I do not know.
Eventually seen and told I needed a large Xray. Dentist unsure how to use machine so this took twenty minutes of just standing in the machine.
The dentist then proceeded to tell me they could put a temporary filling in but this would make things worse and what I needed to do was sign up for a treatment plan of £400 and have root canal and a crown fitted. I said I would need to think about it and talk to husband before agreeing. Was made to sign another 10 forms prior to being able to leave consultation room. Paid £60 for Xray at reception and spoke to 111 on our way home who I explained the situation to, they booked me to see a local dentist the following day who then put in a temporary filling under a local anaesthetic to get me out of pain until I got to my own dentist for a permanent one three days later. All for the cost of £20.60.
Disgusting that the dental hub are targeting people who are in pain and desperate and that they are frightening them into paying (and of course signing up)for treatment plans they don’t necessarily need. My tooth is fine, my dentist is happy it does not have to be removed as I was told by them.
Definitely in it for the money and not patient care.
Shocked that places like this can be allowed to prey on people who are in pain and need emergency treatment. Sure it’s nice to have the option to do a £400 treatment plan if you wish but not if the work is not a necessity in emergency situations. Would have been nice if there were options but was told a temporary would make the pain worse which it didn’t and my dentist did not understand why I was told this. |
