Am nearing the end of some possibly temporary treatment providing a flexible upper partial denture in lieu of a successful wide 7 tooth bridge which broke after 10 years thanks to some rather rigid roast duck crackling. We have discussed the available alternatives of dentures v implants, and although we have not made the final decision, something had to be done promptly to avoid a thrilling baby diet of soup and banana etc.as it was very difficult to bite and chew. Impressions were taken and the temporary flexible denture was fitted two weeks after the bridge collapse and to my surprise was far far away from the discomfort I had anticipated. We are now leaving final decisions for a couple of months to see if a permanent denture or implants might be appropriate as there do not seem to be too many alternatives. I am encouraged to seek a second opinion and am mindful that the cost and time difference between the two routes discussed is considerable. The whole process is not welcome, but at age 74 you take it on the chin or thereabouts and I have enjoyed being part of team discussions, Hope the final treatment is as good as the temporary one. |
