I had not been to the dentist in over 10 years prior to visiting here over the last 2-3 years. I have nothing but amazing things to say about the academy and everyone that works here, from the front desk to the students (dental nurses/dental students/teachers/tutors everyone).
They treated me with kindness, dignity and were empathetic towards me and understood my fears - which I can gladly say they helped me overcome. They work so well and with due diligence every single visit and now I love my teeth. The work I had done included, replacement of old fillings, brand new separate filling, extraction of my wisdom tooth, cleaning and maintenance.. thank you everyone :)
Only sad thing is they have removed me from their list now suddenly :( Reply from University of Portsmouth Dental Academy Mon, 16 Apr 2018 17:36:07 +0100 Thank you for your kind words which will be greatly appreciated by both our students and staff. The reason we have a discharge policy is that we are a training centre and need patients that can offer suitable clinical experience for our students. We are also expected by the NHS commissioners to give priority to patients who have lots of dental disease. The policy is in line with national dental contracts where dentists are no longer expected to register patients and where the obligation is to complete all treatment identified at the check-up and set out in the treatment plan. There is no obligation to provide care post completion of a course of treatment. In practice dentists do provide on-going care and at the Dental Academy we offer patients more than one course of treatment and only discharge once oral health has been stabilised. |

I have had an emergency appointment through 111 for a broken tooth, thats when I first visited the dental academy. From the beginning they have been extremely helpful and professional, I have been their patient since, had fillings and root canal done, I am super satiesfied and definetely recommend it to everyone! |
