Although the doctors are always willing to ring to chat about your ailments this is not always an acceptable way of dealing with an illness. For people who work it is not always appropriate to discuss a private/personal complaint in front of work colleagues. Generally speaking, the elderly feel uncomfortable speaking on the telephone and struggle to explain their symptoms. So, a face to face consultation would be far more appropriate for most. My Father felt very poorly recently and after a few phone calls he was reluctantly seen by a nurse and was told there was nothing wrong even though we tried to say that we thought he was suffering with a chest infection. Two days later he was admitted to hospital with pneumonia and had a heart attack. There are far too many appointments saved for phone calls, it takes about 3 weeks to get an appointment to see a GP and it's almost impossible to stick to one GP because of their regular holidays. Opening times and duty Doctors are never openly publicised. We have been with this practice for many many years and the treatment we have received has unfortunately declined over the past year or so.
