I came to see one of the doctors in January because I had a swelling on my right lower arm. She sent me for an ultrasound and the gentleman that done it would say get the results in a couple of days that evening The doctor rang me and told me that I would have to be referred to Birmingham orthopaedic hospital with suspicion of sarcoma. I will be put under the two wait week to get an appointment as it turned out. Birmingham do things differently and I would wait two weeks for an appointment which I’ve got for next month. The reason I’m writing this last Thursday I rang the surgery wanting a telephone appointment with doctor, whether it be this week or the following week. I just want to clarity on the situation that I’m in. I explain to the receptionist she said the doctor has no more appointments available but I said well I’d rather talk to the one I’ve been dealing with continuity. Receptionist said, in helpful manner were, there is no more appointments available I said again it doesn’t matter if it’s not for week 10 days. No she wouldn’t have it and her reply was with appointment. Can’t be that important. I said it to me it could be cancer with that I put the phone down because I was angry and upset. So on the Friday morning I called in at the doctors I went up was very polite ask were there any appointments for the doctor receptionist was very help Oh yes we have one at 11:10. I explained why I want to see the doctor she said well I sent that through to her if she feels it just needs a telephone appointment. We will let you know half an hour before but if you don’t hear anything please come in I didn’t hear anything so I went to see the doctor And it put my mind at rest. Now I have spoken to a number of people who belong to this practice, and everyone says the problem is some not all some other receptionists can be very offhanded. You feel like to get an appointment you have to push mountains through them you say they are specially trained no disrespect, if they were specially trained, they be a doctor I feel not trained enough, they need to have a lesson in human resources how we shoul be treat as humans. So so many times as my husband and I come up against this when you’re ill you ring up or you going to the doctor you should see a friendly face not somebody is trying not to give you an appointment and speak to you offhand. I hope the practice manager or somebody authority at the practice reads this takes on board. I appreciate they don’t know everybody’s situation but we are all human beings A bit of kindness goes a long long way, and I just feel you’ve lost your way on this. I been with this doctor surgery for 21 years and it never used to be like this. Really very sad. The last word I will say the doctor have dealt with has been brilliant |

I've been a patient here for 20 years and have complicated medical conditions. I have never waited more than a couple of days for an appointment and have always found if I call with any medical emergency before 10am I will be seen or telephoned that day. Is it the same as 20 years ago? Of course not. Patient numbers have more than doubled and there are less staff. Add in all the covid, flu clinics etc and it's no wonder that waiting for an appointment has grown. So many people forget and miss appointments too. I've never been spoken to with anything other than kindness and respect. But I've witnessed staff being sworn and shouted at...that's not okay. They are doing their absolute best to care for us. Be respectful! |
