I have been waiting on the phone to simply make an appointment with a practice nurse. I started off as number 2 in the queue and 60 minutes later I am number 1 in the queue.
I have just had a hip replacement, live alone, and cannot drive at the moment, otherwise it would have been much faster to drive to the surgery. Luckily I do not pay for phone calls, but what do people do who are charged for calls?
I consider this to be appalling service. |

Start 'phoning after 8.30 am. Only one telephone line for Doctor and Nurse appointments. First listen to lengthy message before being placed on "hold" for up to 30 minutes as everyone needing an appointment is trying to get through at the same time. Recently tried to get an appointment on the NHS Portland web site - nothing available to book from end November to 24th December. One Triage doctor for “on the day appointments” if you are lucky. Surgery staffed by medical team for only 5 hours a day. 3 hours in the morning and 2 in the afternoon. I am not aware of how many doctors are on site on a daily basis. Most work part time and that time is spread twixt two surgeries about three miles apart. Patients rarely get to see the same doctor twice in succession. Also, it appears that all the surgeries in the complex use the same appointment system, so no point opting to change. It does make one wonder if the patients are getting the better deal. |
