I have been going to this surgery to see the same doctor for a long time. I suffer acute health anxiety and the doctor has been exceptionally patient and understanding. I realise that I can sometime put the Gp in a frustrating situation, as they are dealing with patients who have very serious conditions, and, it can be difficult for a doctor to confirm whether the condition I "feel" I have developed is real, or part of my anxiety. Health anxiety is horrible, and the receptionists unfortunately are not understanding, though one recently new to the desk at Tonge Moor Health centre seems pleasant, helpful, and that does make a difference. Health anxiety can be made worse by being referred, but I feel that some of the less experienced doctors will do just that to cover themselves/mis diagnosis etc. I can understand that though it doesn't help someone with health anxiety as it feeds their belief that they do actually have a life threatening condition. One doctor is probably the best one to see, but this doctor doesn't know me like my doctor did, and, I fee that I am just making a nuisance of myself at the minute because of this. Will ride the storm with my symptoms at the minute. Just wish more people were approachable and understood a bit more. It does make all the difference. I do know that doctors and their receptionists are busy, but please try and put yourselves in your patients position, however difficult this may be. You never know when you may experience similar. |

I've been with the practice for 30 years plus and have only had a positive experience. The doctors are knowledgeable and can sort the problem there and then or at least refer to the hospital for a second opinion. The staff are friendly and courteous - sometimes in the face of gross rudeness from some of the patients - who should know better. Rudeness and aggression no matter what the problem is can never be the answer. Through no fault of their own they appear to have problems replacing senior doctors who have retired in recent times but this seems to be the problem all over the country. Hopefully they will recruit permanent GPs and then deliver the service they want to but in the meantime don't kick them when they're doing their best. I've been grateful over the years for having them there. |
