Whenever I have needed an appointment Sandy Lane Surgery have always managed to get me in. When the triage line was in use I spoke to doctors several times due to issues with my asthma and they always listened and took appropriate action. While the phone system can be frustrating at times, receptionists try hard to find an appointment to suit my needs as due to the nature of my job I struggle to attend any appointment earlier than 5pm. The reception staff ask for your symptoms which are provided for the GP/nurse you see so that they have a heads up why you are there and can begin examination quickly and effectively. All in all I am happy with the level of service provided by the surgery. |

I have to attend the surgery at least twice a week for ongoing treatment so I have probably noticed the changes more than other patients. It is easier to book my appointments as the nurse does that for me whilst at my appointment, and I can see a doctor fairly quickly should it be necessary, and even book appointments online. However it is not easy to see your preferred GP as their waiting list can be very long. I have found all of the staff very friendly and helpful, both behind reception and on the medical and office sides. I use Patients Access which makes life easier when ordering my medication and I can write (and receive) messages for doctors and staff, so I can avoid using the phone at busy times. I have also received phone calls for matters requiring urgent attention. There are also extended surgery opening hours for people who need them. So overall the improvements have worked well for me. |

Seeing the surgery's latest response on 4th March, to a review posted 21st February, where they explained new GPs, new management and an online GP appointment system is due 1st April could not be more welcome. The current system is abysmal, my whole family have very rarely been able to see the GP we are registered with, in fact you are very lucky if you can see a GP at all! We should all now, in good faith, have to believe everything will change or the surgery, and its patients, are in deep trouble.
I feel obliged to comment on a recent event where an appointment was booked, unfortunately again not with my GP, where the receptionist was advised of the two ailments I had been experiencing. After the GP had assessed the first ailment for a couple of minutes I began to tell her about the other, but she told me she only had one on her list, she was rushed and had other patients to see so quite clearly wanted me to leave.
She was 5 minutes behind but, as I knew it would take forever to get another appointment and more money would be lost taking further time off work, I quickly explained the other problem, to my astonishment, the GP gave me a sheet referring me for an ECG and would not do or say anything else until she had the results of this. Admittedly I left with a prescription for the first ailment but nothing to help or any advice relating to the second, which I hasten to add was not anything relating to chest pains or dizziness.
I had heard very poor reports about this GP but thought I would give her the benefit of the doubt and make my own decision. I’m truly sorry to have to say that what I’ve been told about this doctor is true. I suspect if this review is actually posted that the gender and name will be removed but I do hope an internal investigation will take place as this GP does not seem interested in patients, only how far behind she is with her list! |
