The Mellowes is situated in a pleasant residential area of Gillingham, North Dorset, with local shops within walking distance and historic Shaftesbury approximately five miles away.

The home provides convalescence, palliative care and respite. All our homes offer the quality of care you&d expect from Bupa. We employ dedicated, well-trained staff to provide 24-hour care and support in a professional and respectful way.

Food and drink

Meals are an important part of the day at The Mellowes, and we offer a wide range of balanced dishes on our daily menu, made using fresh ingredients. We also offer light snacks at any time of day.

All our menus are nutritionally balanced, and our chef caters for all tastes and diets, visiting each resident soon after they arrive to discuss their preferences and any special requirements they may have.

Our home offers a Night Bite menu that&s available between 6.30pm and 6.30am, providing a range of food including fresh fruit, sandwiches, cereals, yoghurts and hot and cold beverages to those who need it.

Activities

Our dedicated activity co-ordinator ensures there is always something going on that is enjoyable and stimulating to do. We offer activities to suit all interests and levels of mobility – from quizzes and memory sessions, to discussion groups.

Personal hobbies and interests are also encouraged. We are also regularly visited by local entertainers and musicians. Our on-site hairdressing salon is open one day a week for a little pampering.

Activities don&t just take place in the home as we like to take residents out when we can, perhaps to the local garden centre for a strawberry cream team, to Sturminster Flour Mill and Museum or Compton Abbas Airfield. Friends and relatives are also welcome to join us on these trips if they wish.
