Richmond House has provided an outstanding break not only for my child N but also to the whole family, I'm a single mum with three children. I found it so hard to carry on and to provide the care they deserve. I'd struggle to keep me going. My son N is 11 years old autistic with severe challenging behaviour and 2 daughters 9 and 7 with complex health, E has poor vision in her left eye and with depth perception has been diagnosed with a left divergent strabismus and left eye amblyopia, CVI Cortical Visual Impairment and T suspected Autism and behaviour difficulties. The Social service and Family Support group in East Riding recommended us to use Richmond House Social Care Services, which we don't know about. 3 days after our phone call, the Managers of the house visited us, they provided us with a family package explained all the steps we need to know about, they assigned a key worker to each child to match the skills and experiences as they provided us with a Little About me Guide | Child's Friendly Guide to tell us about our carers, using simple words with PECS to simplify the communication also they worked with me how to address and recognise my children triggers before they melt down or having an outburst. We have a routine and everyone enjoy doing it, Social Stories and PECS helped me to understand and to communicate better with my children.
Richmond House encouraged us to take part in Animal Assisted Therapy for children with disability and from the moment we touched BIG Daddy, Socks (Alpacas) Molly and Lola (Ponies) and the rest of their pets they improved our life, N is relaxed and waiting for his carer's visit at the doorstep. E is doing a sensory course and she starts using a cane which was refusing it before and T enjoys swimming and spend time in the AAT programme.
To the whole team, I want to say Thank You for letting me feel human again, and we look forward to your next visit.
