15 hours wait for ambulance for my father, 12 hours in a&e following 3 falls in a short period of time and experiencing back pain. Ct scan showed some fractures in lumbar spine. Dad was discharged to come back following day for mri. It was clear Dad couldnt walk, he was sent home where he had no electricity and no help. He clearly looked unwell. Following mri the next day he was sent back to a&e and admitted to ward the day after. No one contacted me as nok and i had to ring the hospital to find out where my dad was. I asked why he was discharged one day to be admitted the following day and i was told he was clinically well. When i asked how he was looking the day he was waiting for ward bed (less than 24 hours later) i was told dad looked very unwell. He is currently bed bound and told not to go to the toilet on his own as not supposed to be walking as he has multiple lumbar spine fractures. I would like an explanation as to why dad was discharged in the first place to go home with known spinal fractures as a vulnerable older adult with no external support (family live 2 hours away) to be readmitted as no. Weight bearing. He has been treated disgustingly. It was obvious to the staff who put him in the taxi home he couldn\t walk and was in pain. Taxi driver wasnt allowed to help him in his home and not his job. Considering dad gets hospital transport to appts for cancer follow up appts it is obvious he has mobility problems at the best of times. As a former nhs employee at another hospital, i am beyond disgusted.
