When having my blood taken, I was sat in a chair that had clear signs of dirt (crumbs, hair etc.) and my arm was put on this plastic thing by the nurse which turned my stomach. You could see visible signs of dirt that had be ground in over time, and greasy residue previous patients had left. Considering my blood is being taken, I didn't expect this type of environment. Moreover, I didn't see a needle being taken out of a wrapper in front of me which is what I've always experienced when using other facilities.
I've used other areas of the hospital which are pristine in comparison so I'm not sure why the phlebotomy clinic would be any different? I understand they have to deal with a high patient turnover but I don't feel thats an excuse when we're talking about hygiene and cleanliness in a healthcare facility.
Other than that, I felt the nurses were semi-friendly and helped me feel calm whilst the needle was actually being inserted. Original Comment Report... Reply from Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust Wed, 07 Mar 2018 14:54:18 Z I am sorry to read of your experience of attending the Phlebotomy clinic at North Cambridgeshire hospital. This is clearly not the environment that should be presented to patients. May I take this opportunity to apologise that this was your experience and to reassure you that I have alerted the Matron that has oversight of that service and she will be addressing the matter immediately with the team in the clinic. I trust that in future you will have a more reassuring experience when using the service. My mother recently spent her last 2 weeks on this ward and the care and kindness extended not only to her but also the whole if our family was nothing less than 1st class.
The whole Trafford Team (nursing staff, admin, housekeeping and domestic staf) have a wonderful philosophy of care that they achieve so well.
On behalf of the whole family we would like to extend our gratitude and would award every single member 5stars. Original Comment Report...
