Dear Sirs I was admitted into hospital on Saturday morning after taking an overdose. The nursing staff were excellent. The nurse almost begged me to meet with the Crisis Team and reluctantly I did. My interview with the crisis team is another matter but put me in the mind to discharge myself. At the time I was waiting for some liver blood test results and if they were of concern then I would have to meet the liver specialist on Sunday. I suggested that if the results were not favourable then it would be better for me to come to the hospital on Sunday and not take up, unnecessarily a bed. When I arrived at the hospital I had to remain on the trolley for over 36 hours with my ankles dangling over the end. When I started walking within the hospital I felt stiffness and pain in my ankles and put this down to the long period spent on the trolley. When the medical staff inspected me they constantly checked my ankles and I received more IV treatment until just before I met with the Crisis team. This morning the stiffness and extreme soreness in my ankles has increased during the day and despite constantly trying to keep moving I am now only able to move about with crutches. My immediate thought is whether or not I was over prescribed the IV fluid and that is now the cause of my pain and restricted movement. If this will go with time and if the cause is the fluid please let me know. If the liver blood tests were ok then I would have been in the same predicament as I am now if not I would still be home with the same problem if I had not left the hospital on my own accord.
