Cambridge Manor Care Home

Initially we were relieved that our father was in what appeared to be a good care home, and undoubtedly for some it is. However, it is hard not to be distracted by the obvious display of glitzy bling and pretty cakes that hits you when entering, don't be. The residents on the ground floor are having a great time, stimulated and looked after well. They can speak and vouch for themselves. The dementia floor is another matter. I won't go into too much detail, but they don't understand dementia, they really don't. There were never enough staff around and when our dad needed bathroom help, it always came too late. Patients seemed ignored and unloved, the place smelled really bad and staff seemed stressed and unhappy. Worst of all patients were left to shout and the distress was palpable.We moved our dad and now we know what a proper care home for dementia should be, full of love, affection and empathy from the top down.
