Westacre Nursing Home

My husband was at Westacre for two weeks and was blissful. Westacre specialises in dementia care and they know how to make their residents calm and happy. I could not recommend it more highly.

Westacre feels a safe and secure environment. Everyone on the staff, including the homes cat, are very friendly. The premises recently had a major refurbishment and work programme, well planned to minimise disruption to residents.

With all the recent bad press regarding the standard of care in some residential care homes, we would like to let people know that there are good homes out there as well. Unfortunately, our father had been suffering from dementia for the last six months or so and had been cared for at home, mostly by our mother with assistance in the morning from social services. However, at the beginning of July, after a visit by the GP, it was felt that he should go into a home. The home chosen was Westacre in Sleepers Hill, Winchester, a home specialising in care of people with dementia. We would like to say how very, very pleased the entire family were with the care our father received. He was treated with patience and with dignity and always with a smile, whoever was on duty. He, unfortunately, deteriorated very quickly whilst in the home and was eventually bedridden. However, the staff ensured that he was turned regularly to prevent pressure sores, and that he was kept clean and fresh at all times. Towards the end the family kept a vigil by our fathers bedside and the staff were very accommodating, one day even providing a tray of sandwiches to feed five people, despite having to carter for all the residents as well. Sadly our father passed away on July 30th. Again, the staff were kind and compassionate to us all. Our father could have ended his days in hospital, and although we have nothing but praise for the hard-working staff in the NHS, we are so glad he was able to stay at Westacre. On behalf of all our family we would like to thank all the staff at Westacre for their care and compassion in what is a very difficult job. Please keep up the good work so the other families are able to know that their loved ones end lives with the dignity they deserve.
