Doctors do not take mental health seriously. No help at all. They just shove you on meds or declare you fit and healthy after a blood test. I've had my prescription messed up multiple times meaning going through withdrawal. They always phone at least three hours after the appointment time.

I find I don’t have to wait long for my call to be answered but after that it’s all downhill. By their own admission, they cannot retain their GP’s so if you’re lucky enough to speak to one or have a face to face consultation, they don’t know anything about you. I completely understand we are in a very challenging climate but everyone is in this situation together. I have long term health issues but trying to speak someone about medication or side effects I regularly get is a battle. They make me feel they can’t get me off the phone quickly enough. On 2 occasions I’ve been phoned by the practice with results when I haven’t been expecting a call. Because of where I work, I can’t have a private conversation on the phone. I’ve phoned the surgery for blood results to be told I have a telephone appointment booked & the GP will speak to me about them. This has happened on more than one occasion & when I informed the receptionist, she said she would pass this on as another caller had mentioned the same- an appointment made for them & they’re not informed. There is a poster in the surgery which is updated each month, saying how many missed appointments there were. How many of these are missed because the patient isn’t even aware they have an appointment?!

I have been with this practice for over 20 years. At times I think they are brilliant and at times disappointing. When they were in Castle Street I nearly always got an appt with the same doctor and had very good treatment. Since moving to Millstream I have hardly seen the same doctor twice. There seemed to be a huge turnover of staff. Despite this, they were always very thorough when I did visit. Since the new system of the nurse practitioner calling you back though, I have lost confidence. It is not always convenient to be called back during a patient's working day and to speak privately about health matters. My latest experience caused me to have to call the NHS helpline late in the evening of the following day, as the nurse practitioner had not helped at all, doubling my medication and causing the symptoms I had called about to become worse (hence the call to the helpline). I had said to her that the medication didn't seem to be very effective and I wanted to go back on a drug I had used before. For some reason both she and the doctor I had seen previously did not want to prescribe the drug that I had felt so well with and wanted to go back on. I have now stopped my medication and am using herbal remedies in an effort to help myself. If I cannot get an appointment in future without going through the nurse practitioner again, I will seriously rethink staying with this practice.
