Back in May, I had a very bad turn with serious stomach pains making me almost collapse in agony. My husband took me to the local Medical Practice at Holsworthy and the staff there were superb ! They did some initial checks and called for an ambulance to take me to North Devon Hospital in Barnstaple. That resulted in a 2 night stay where they did some tests and afterwards they were able to discharge me from hospital. It was thought that the problem was my gallbladder and to check on how I felt over the next few weeks until I returned for a consultation in July. At that meeting I decided to have the operation to remove my gallbladder and just to mention that all the staff I met were brilliant, professional and very caring. Then I received a cancellation slot for Monday from Tracey who did the bookings for the hospital. She was lovely on the phone and put me at ease with the official documentation arriving in the post the next day. The operation was carried out by Mr Arain and his care team and my thanks to all of them for a very successful piece of work ! In the ward, special thanks to Siobhan and all the nursing staff for looking after me. I am feeling much better and thanks to all in the NHS

I called up to make appointment with doctor to be advised by reception i only had a cold and to take medicine from chemist. 2 wks later i call again say its on going problem got appt for doctor to be told i have a viral infection and should have been seen earlier... Advised that i had.. Really angry as im still not 100%..reptionists shouldn't be allowed to diagnosing they havent trained for years like doctor's. And then today there is a sign up NO Smoking but a female was using her vaper. Which was making people cough. But staff didn't nt say anything to her. Why should we have to inhale her second hand vaper smoke. Disgusting. This should be stopped in side buildings too.

Thank you for taking time to give us your feedback. We're sorry the hear that your experience with us at the medical centre did not meet your expectations. It is our practice policy for Patient Service Advisors, after asking a few simple questions, to signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician or allied health professional or health service(eg. at a pharmacy). A lot of patients suffering from simple coughs and colds can be treated by a Pharmacist. Most pharmacists are able to prescribe short-courses of some antibiotics as well. However, our PSA team are trained NOT to diagnose under any circumstances which, as you point out, they are not qualified to do. If matters are more complex patients can be booked either routinely with their own GP (if non-urgent) or via the Emergency Team if the condition needs an urgent response. If in any doubt our PSAs should always defer to a clinical member of staff to advise by a phone-call. I am sorry that you feel we fell short here and did not book you appropriately. In regard to vaping our practice does not allow either smoking or vaping on the premises (including outside the building) and we will ensure that all our signage reflects this and the PSA reception team pointing this out to patients.

My husband was home recovering from major surgery he developed a temperature and was feeling unwell. I rang the health centre and the receptionist asked if he was able to come in immediately. When we arrived he was seen within a few minutes by a very caring nurse practitioner. She said he was showing signs of sepsis and called tne doctor to examine him. The diagnosis was confirmed and an ambulance requested. All the staff including the nurses who cared for him until the ambulance arrived were wonderful I can't praise all concerned enough for the care my husband was given. This health centre has given all my family good and speedy treatment and we have never found it difficult to get an appointment when we needed it.
