Receptionists are awful. Practice Manager is a enabler who threatens you with being struck off if you say anything to the rude, unprofessional, cold hearted receptionists. Who have 0 empathy for patients but then again what do you expect from teenagers.

I think when training is on that the receptionist need to go on a man management course to learn how to deal with the general public and also the patients got no issues with the doctors if and when you get to see one The receptionist need to communicate with one another instead of saying nothing no the wonder patients get really annoyed with them

Man Management courses are for managers, if you are referring to customer service training then it is mandatory for all staff to receive this training, The GP is not always the most appropriate clinician to access and we now have a Advanced Nurse Practitioner to assist the Doctors. I need clarity on your last statement 'saying nothing' is there a specific incident regarding communication, if so I would be grateful if you would let me know via our complaints policy or suggestion cards.

I rang the GP surgery today to make appointment for my son to see a certain doctor (always been his dr since he was a baby 2012) was informed from the receptionist that the next appointment wouldn't be until 13 September. I asked if I could make it for a later appointment but she refused and said 11.20am i explained that he was back to school and that if i wasnt happy with the appointment the next available appointment wouldn't be till 1 week later. I took that appointment and obviously have to wait for him.to be seen. She then told me that his doctor wasnt this doctor anymore and told me the name of his doctor who I have never heard of.... would have been lovely to be informed of this. I work within the NHS myself and I think this is absolutely appalling service. My child is 7 years old and I dont find this acceptable to wait as long as 5 weeks for appointment. This surgery has got to be the worst to get appointment. I was informed last year that they done 1 late night appointments but I've never been able to get a late night appointment. I work till 4pm from 6.30am and always struggled getting appointment that is suitable for me.

Waiting times for a routine appointment with a GP are a national problem for all surgeries due to the lack of GPs and the ability to recruit. South Tyneside has tried to overcome this problem by doctors working in an extended access service early mornings and late evenings, if a patient is not happy with the waiting time to see their own GP then they are always offered one of these appointments to attend (usually) another surgery. It does help gain access to a routine appointment by not stipulating a specific GP or time and all children who need an emergency appointment are seen on the day by the on-call clinician. We have recently taken on a third GP partner due to retirement, and one of the doctors had dropped from full-time to part time. This meant the patient list size had to be distributed pro-rata between the GP Partners for workload. BMA guidance/website says that notification to a change or allocation of a GP is to be given at the next most appropriate contact with the practice.
