Procedure Information |
What happens during knee replacement surgery? A knee replacement is a procedure to remove your damaged knee joint and replace it with an artificial one (a prosthesis or implant) – this is made out of metal, plastic or ceramic. Following surgery your knee should be much less painful and the joint should move more smoothly. New advances in technology offer a greater range of implant types and sizes. Your Nuffield Health surgeon will choose the implant that best fits your body size and lifestyle. In some cases a CT scan or MRI scan of your knee may be used to create special guides that will help your surgeon accurately fit your prosthesis. A knee replacement is normally performed under general anaesthetic During the operation your whole existing knee joint is replaced with a new prosthetic knee joint This takes between one and two hours Your surgeon will make an incision (cut) at the front of your knee where the replacement will be inserted Usually, you will stay in hospital for 2-4 days, but you may have to stay longer if necessary. |

Recently had ACDFsurgery with Mr Khan, l can't praise them enough. The outcome of my surgery outweighed my expectations, brilliant surgeon! Surrounded by an amazing team of nurses, technicians, physio's, pharmacists, radiographers, hostesses and the admin support staff that tie it all together. Wouldn't think twice of going there again, but hope not too! Five star service????? |

Unsatisfactory experience of Exeter Nuffield Reply from Nuffield Health Fri, 16 Aug 2019 11:10:12 +0100 Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Whilst we can’t discuss individual cases or details because of UK data protection laws, I can confirm that a full investigation took place as a result of this review and Paul Taylor, Hospital Director, responded to you by letter on the 26th February with the findings. As explained in the letter, at Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital we deliver consultant led care. This means a consultant assesses a patient and determines the requirement for any further tests, scans or treatments, the same consultant then reviews the results, this is to ensure we deliver expert and excellent care. All our pre appointment and pre operation communication contains information about fees and explains that if a patient is using medical insurance they should contact their insurer for clarification on what’s covered by their particular policy. As per the letter from Paul Taylor, if you have any further queries or would like to discuss this in person, please get in touch at customer.relations@nuffieldhealth.com |
