Procedure Information |
WHAT HAPPENS DURING CARPAL TUNNEL RELEASE SURGERY? Carpal tunnel release is usually performed using a local anaesthetic so that you feel nothing and a light sedation so you remain relaxed. The procedure takes about twenty minutes. Your surgeon will make a small incision (cut) in your wrist. They will then cut the flexor retinaculum - the ligament that forms the top of the carpal tunnel - relieving the pressure on the median nerve. The incision will be closed using sutures (stitches). Some surgeons will perform this procedure endoscopically - inserting a tiny camera into the incision to examine your wrist and cut the ligament. AFTER THE OPERATION Carpal tunnel release is usually done on an outpatient basis meaning you will do home the same day as the procedure. You may go home with a splint or heavy bandage on your wrist. Once these are removed you will begin exercises and physiotherapy to regain movement in your wrist and arms. Most people make a good recovery and return to normal activities following carpal tunnel release. As with any surgery there can be complications: Pain Bleeding Infection of the surgical site (incision) Scarring SPECIFIC COMPLICATIONS IN CARPAL TUNNEL RELEASE INCLUDE: Continued numbness in fingers Tenderness around scar Aching in the wrist Return of numbness and pain Complex regional pain syndrome – a rare, but chronic (long-term) condition that causes a burning pain in one of the limbs |

My second knee replacement surgery in September 2022 followed my first knee replacement a year earlier and a hip replacement two years previously. All three ops. Were with the NHS and were carried out at the Nuffield Hospital, Wolverhampton. The care and attention I received during my three day stay was so nice. The staff reassurance and kindness quickly removed any anxiety I had and I returned home happy and confident. During the past few years, both my husband and I have had various visits to our local hospitals, and have nothing but praise for the friendly and excellent doctors and nurses that we have met on these visits. The NHS is so valuable to us all. |

Went to see neurologist back some months ago. Being in chronic pain for years & my situation getting worse my experience was shocking. panning my hopes on getting answer's. Soon came crashing down. 7 mins it took the doctor called me in i told her about my chronic pain asking can you look at my mri scan. The doctor said I don't need to iv seen the report you have chronic migraines. Don't drink coffee cheese chocolate & all the rest of what I have all ready tried. then the doctor tells me I suffer with migraines. There is a new injection my frend does it over Birmingham only thing is it cost a lot of money i said how much 450 i will write to your gp left sat in my car and cried. This was my last hope of getting my life back. I complained the Nuffield gave me my money back. 7 days later a letter from this doctor telling my gp its menopause I told my gp 10 years iv been suffering and getting worse. I showed another doctor this letter he said that is disgusting this is what I'd expect of a 1st year student. Months later I have a neurologist appointment at nhs been waiting years for this. Then I look at the doctors name the same one I'd paid to see. I cancelled the appointment. If you are after a neurologist don't waste your time here. |
