Our relative stayed at Evergreen Lodge for about 3 years. Things started ok, but gradually we noticed a high staff churn rate and it seemed to be all the good staff that were leaving. Eventually, we began to notice the problems - floors in his room were filthy, he wasn't listened to and his difficulties were dismissed as behavioural. Medications were regularly cocked up and the final straw was when he was hospitalized after his (and our) attempts to get medical intervention for recurring abdominal pain resulted in near fatal urinary retention and permanent kidney damage. Do your homework and question everything. |

My dad spent the last 3 years of his life in Evergreen Lodge and I have to say the care he received during this time was, in my opinion, second to none. I must admit when visiting Evergreen for the first time I did have my reservations, it wasnt the newest or best looking home I'd visited, however, it soon became apparent that, what it lacked in appearance it more than made up for with the care and attentiveness shown to my dad by the care, nursing and management staff. In my opinion, staff often went 'above and beyond' what was expected of them and would often put themselves out to make my dad as happy and comfortable as possible. I cannot thank or praise the staff at Evergreen enough. If you are looking for somewhere for a loved one to stay take my advise 'don't judge a book by its cover', good care is far more important than freshly painted walls and hotel style bedrooms. |
