My Mum has been living at Chapel House nursing home since April 2014.
Over the last 20 months the care she has recieved has ticked boxes to be good enough for Mum. As her family our aspirations were always for Mum to receive outstanding care.
We have noticed over the last few months significant positive changes in the way care is being given in her home due to changes in the management culture of how staff are being supported to deliver person centred care to Mum.
I have noticed music on in her living room rather than motor racing blaring from the telly where she sits - Mum was never a big fan of motor racing!
I have noticed happier staff no longer in uniforms but in their own clothes because "its your Mums home and she might be confused by nurses in uniforms being there"
I have noticed Mum been given choices about what she wants to eat.
There are personal profiles introducing staff who work there up on the walls. This personalises them and helps families get to know the people who care for Mum and supports building relationships with them.
Most significantly I have noticed positive changes in Mums mental health - she looks more alert responsive and stimulated - a real joy to see when I visit her.
So come on Chapel House - we know you are good at what you do - the challenge now is to sustain the excellent improvements you have made and to aspire to being an Outstanding care home. That's what we want for Mum. |
