My mum passed away recently at the age of 95 after three and a half years at the Beaufort Care Home in Coventry. Hardly a day passed without her telling me what a wonderful place we had been fortunate enough to find for her. While the building is really nice, what makes the Beaufort stand out so well is the staff who are truly remarkable.
When Ethel moved into the Home she had limited mobility, but the staff made constant efforts to keep her moving, at first with a cane, then with a walker and finally with a wheel chair. They would get her outside into the garden when weather permitted and to the dining room and the lounge so she could enjoy the company of other residents.
In the last year her body progressively failed although she remained fully alert mentally. As she became confined to her bed the staff attended to her physical needs with compassion. As her condition deteriorated and she began to experience extreme pain it was the staff who pressured and cajoled to get her the appropriate pain medication to ensure that she did not suffer. They would find the time to give her companionship and to help keep her mind alert. They would sit and hold her hand in the middle of the night when she could not speak.
I live in Canada and while I could speak with my mum by phone every day I could not visit her regularly. This was made bearable knowing that she was getting such wonderful, expert, loving care.
When my dad died 10 years ago I made a silent promise to his memory that I would make sure Ethel had the best possible life. I was very fortunate that when she needed a Home she was able to get into the Beaufort. The staff at the Beaufort have made me feel very good about how well I have fulfilled that promise. I really cannot praise the staff and their management enough and I give my recommendation without hesitation
