The Seaton is a wonderful care home. My father was cared for lovingly and professionally - he was extremely happy at The Seaton. Staff ensured dad's immediate care needs were met, but were also clearly aware of any changes in his needs. Thus medical professionals were called in as soon as staff felt it necessary to reassess any aspect of dad's provision. All staff were unfailingly friendly and supportive - not just to dad, but also to mum who visited daily and is now herself frail. Mum was made welcome as if she herself were resident - which of course helped ensure dad's happiness too. Mum talks without reservation about the kindness shown by staff. This level of support extends to families - I received much help and advice from the manager which was invaluable to me in understanding my parents' needs in old age and helping me to support them. The Seaton is comfortable, with both lively and quiet communal spaces. Family and friends are welcome at any time - so dad was able to have the joy of grandchildren around him whenever we could get to Devon. Dad's room was clean, light and comfortable, I was able to personalise it with pictures - some very large - and photographs, ornaments and treasured items of my dad's. There is a wide range of activities offered. Dad was involved in these as much as possible, despite the fact that he was profoundly deaf and had very poor eyesight. I have a photo which I treasure of dad at The Seaton's Christmas dinner - he looks so happy; and that is how I remember him. Dad was by nature a very positive person, cheerful and fulfilled. He retained this outlook throughout the last years of his life, despite increasing frailty and a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. This happiness was supported greatly in dad's last year by the care given by staff at The Seaton. I am grateful for all they did; I would recommend The Seaton wholeheartedly and without reservation. |
