The staff at Monkscroft Care Centre are always helpful, friendly and interested in residents and their families. They show good interaction with the residents with a caring attitude and approach. The rooms are well equipped, comfortable and clean with good external views to the garden. It is light and airy with plenty of wardrobe space.

I was asked by a social worker to view a number of nursing homes for my mother. I visited a few which I didn't feel happy with and then turned up at Monkscroft unannounced one Saturday morning. I was given a warm reception and dutifully shown around. Everywhere was beautifully clean and there was not the smell that you usually associate with homes ( in all the 14 months I went in almost everyday there never was once, a credit to the cleaners). I was very pleased with everything I saw and arranged for mum to visit the following Wednesday. In between times they agreed mum could take her little dog with her which for her was wonderful. On her visit mum decided to stay and it became her home for the last fourteen months of her life. Each week mum had her hair done an important thing for her, something she had done for the last 50 years of her life. We took in ornaments and things from her home and the caretakers put up shelves for them to go on. Mum joined in with some of the activities when she wanted to. I have very fond memories of them particularly the karaoke night! Although I done mums washing, I did go to the laundry a number of times and it was always kept beautifully clean. I'm not saying there wasn't a few hiccups but they were always dealt with in a professional manner. It was never going to be the same as her home, and losing dad in the first week of her stay didn't help with the settling in process. I too felt guilty having to let her go into a nursing home. The dog on the other hand, settled well and absolutely loved the attention she got from both staff and residents. I visited most days at all different times and so did other members of the family and friends. We were always made welcome and offered drinks and could even stay for a meal if we wanted. It is lovely that they encourage members of the community into the home to do little concerts, gardening etc even paint the residents nails and provide beauty treatments. When mum became ill at christmas time, after her second hospital visit, she knew she was dying and asked to be brought back to the home to do so. I took this to be a sign that she considered it her home. In that coming week mum and us her family were treated with nothing but, love, care and compassion and above all dignity. The staff on Alstone unit couldn't do enough and to them we will always be eternally grateful. They made mums passing so much easier for us all and we are left with beautiful memories of a wonderful mother we will never forget. I thank you all, I wouldnt have wanted it any other way. I knew that each time I left mum there she was safe something she wasn't in her own home. I certainly would recommend this home and I wouldn't have changed it at all.

I cannot fault Monkscroft Care Centre. The staff are excellent and very caring. I have visited several care homes and would choose Monkscroft above any other. It is certainly the place I would choose for myself!
