Avondale Care Home

I believe Avondale staff are dedicated, passionate and extremely positive. The staff are very knowledgeable and knew how to respond and address issues and how to protect residents, also protecting residents from the risks associated with medicines. Staffing levels were appropriate to the service and sufficient to meet the resident’s needs. When I visited there as voluntary work I helped run some activities and the two activity co-ordinators encourage the residents to take part in the various activities they run in which there is a wide variety to choose from as well as organising a slot to use the gym. Although pricey I believe their standards are outstanding and I would recommend if the money is available.

After looking at various care homes this one is built and designed to impress and it certainly does from the moment you walk in the entrance has a foyer like a first class hotel with a luxury lounge just off of it again designer fabrics adorn expensive curtains of course etc etc , you are shown around the vacant rooms clean fresh spacious the weekly rate is discussed a heart stopping amount but its for your mum or dad so to hell with it bit of a struggle but they are worth it but whilst costs such as electricity and gas have gone down food stayed the staff maybe a small increase in total costs rise say a 1.5% over the year ,well expect Avondale to bump up the price by 5% a year at least on an already very high starting price. The main problem however is that although you pay this high price expect your loved one to be bored mindless with maybe a half hour stimulation a week ,if you are lucky they will be put into the lounge which is a room with a problem , the problem being the carers and nurses will be sitting outside behind a desk viewing your loved ones behind glass and then being told to sit down, reminded me of the film One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest a very bad design ,now if you remember I said those are the lucky ones the unlucky ones will be in there room all day with the television on and be fed and watered on a regulation basis all noted down to ensure compliance with regulations Learn from my experience choose a small family run care home with a homely feel maybe not so plush but you will be happier and your loved one a lot happier.
