I feel qualified to recommend Ashlands on all aspects of the care provided to a friend for whom I was responsible. She was in Ashlands close in two years. Admitted from an unsatisfactory establishment (despite its CQC rating), she was in a very poor way. She had nursing needs for various physical conditions and advanced dementia. From admission she quickly settled, participated in events, her dementia was well managed, she ate well and gained weighed. She was happy and remained so to the end of her life. There was no area at all that fell below outstanding. The staff were all 'trained' in and out of house, enjoyed their work and cared for all in their care with a personal care package. Idiosyncrasies, likes and dislikes were incorporated and my friend reverted to being once more a well dressed lady who only had tea from fine china. The family atmosphere extended to us visitors and I met other patients and their relatives as part of the Ashlands community. As she deteriorated so her care plan adapted and the end of her life was as I would wish my own to be. I learned a great about what can be done for people with dementia and continue to share that learning with others. The manger is exceptionally knowledgeable and has the innate skill of a born teacher to cascade their skill to their staff and the relatives.
