Awful place l would not recommend Ghyllroyd bedrooms are small that beds can only be positioned by the wall in some rooms decor diabolical. Toilets for visitors out of order for weeks and the carpets are stained and smell of urine. Staff look misrable and constantly complaining about the staffing levels not a happy place. |

My mum has been at Ghyll Royd for over a year now and the quality of care has been excellent.
The manager and the team do their best in very challenging situations and I think the balance between 'nursing' and general care is well managed.
I think the latest CQC assessment is unrepresentative and oversimplistic in the impression it gives of Ghyll Royd. It raised issues and my views regarding these are:
The staff numbers issue is an unfortunate inevitability in the care sector, the need is limitless - in the overwhelming majority of time and instances i feel my mum is safe and well cared for.
As regards the mental capability note - my experience is not this at all. The assessments were driven by the manager, fully compliant and well managed for my mum and our families best interests.
I don't agree with the point about the service not being well led - this is not my experience or impression at all.
Take the CQC review with a pinch of salt (and accept it is the result of a box ticking excersise where a balanced picture of a care home can be easily skewed by one or two mainly insignificant 'issues')- visit Ghyll Royd and speak to the families of residents and see for yourself. |

Last year we had to make the heartbreaking decision to have mum admitted into a dementia unit. From the moment mum was offered a place at Ghyll Royd, we knew that this was the place where we could safely and happily allow mum to be cared for by a wonderful warm, genuine and professional set of staff.
From the staff on reception, to the domestics and the diy person, every single person who works here, has a natural desire to look after the residents as if they are their family members.
Our mum isn't always the easiest of residents and the staff are constantly stretched , but we know that we couldn't have found a happier, friendlier, and more caring home for mum. |
