Claybourne, along with Mayfields in Ellesmere Port, was the first Dementia Care Home purpose-built to MHA&s design. It was planned and developed as part of MHA&s Jubilee Celebrations in 1997 and opened by HRH The Prince of Wales. Its single-storey design was based upon research current at the time and upon MHA&s experience of caring for older people with dementia.

Three wings, or “groups”, are each home to 15 residents. Each group contains residents& rooms, a living/dining room, assisted bathrooms and ancillary features so that, with the exception of main cooking and laundry facilities, the unit is &self contained&. Each of the group lounges opens onto a patio area, which in turn allows access to the large secure gardens with paths, garden seating and a purpose-built sensory garden.

It was important that the layout should make sense to residents and allow easy access and circulation but without long, straight corridors. Doors, fittings and fixtures were chosen to reinforce a sense of “home” but at the same time residents are allowed maximum visibility to aid orientation.

Fundamental to the design is a large central communal area which links the groups and provides space in which residents can walk, sit or engage in other activities. Here, too, residents can meet for services or larger functions. The hairdressing room opens off this central area.

Whether in the privacy of your own room or relaxing in the company of your friends and neighbours, we will support you to spend your time doing the things you enjoy. Let us know if it&s music, a favourite newspaper, exercise or a spot of pampering at the salon. Landscaped gardens invite you to appreciate the fresh air, or tend the plants, if you wish.

Claybourne offers care and comfort, compassion and friendship. At the heart of all we offer is our assurance that you will be treated with the respect and dignity that we all deserve, and if you need anything at all, we&re here to help, 24 hours a day.

My Mother was officially committed to Residential Care just over a year ago because she was no longer able to cope in her own home on her own. I wanted her to be able to feel as free as her dementia problems would allow. I visited Claybourne Residential Home and knew immediately this was the right place for my Mother to live; even though the cost was a bit more expensive than some other Homes. Claybourne is a purpose built (1999), spacious three wing bungalow with a large reception area. The decor is Hotel standard (refurbished 2013). The main living areas are bright and airy and the single bedrooms each have en suite toilet/wash basins. My mother has been at Claybourne for just over a year now and she loves it! Whenever I visit she is smiling. She loves all the company, she enjoys the activities and she appreciates being looked after. She wears freshly washed clothes every day and the Carers help her with make-up, hair styling, nail varnish and the like. There is a menu each day and food is cooked on the premises. The home has a 'hotel with care' feel to it. In my opinion Claybourne is a top notch Residential Home for those with dementia and I would highly recommend it.
