Bigwig House

Our son lives at Bigwig and has done so for a few years. He is autistic and has challenging behaviour. His staff show great dedication and genuine care towards him. They often go the extra mile to make his life happier and more fulfilled. They seek out activities which he would enjoy and are constantly, slowly stretching the boundaries that constrain him. For example, he has not flown for many years and was afraid of it. He recently flew from Newquay to Gatwick - a short flight, which he managed and so it was a real achievement for him, and them. Our son is encouraged to be as independent as he can, cleaning his own room, doing his laundry, helping around the house and cooking. He now enjoys being busy and participating, but it took years to persuade him! He has a job which the deputy team leader found for him delivering newspapers, which gives him extra pocket money and a sense of achievement. It is a commitment which he is obliged to fulfil, with their help. The staff are very good at communicating with us, his parents. They phone regularly and keep in touch with emails and lots of pictures of him going about his life. It is very reassuring to get photos of him on a beach, getting a fabulous birthday cake, having fun with others and enjoying the sites of Cornwall. We also get a detailed monthly review. They take him on holiday annually and sees different places which is good for him. In short, we are extremely satisfied with the life he has at Bigwig and the dedicated team who care for him. The house is well kept and homely, in a beautiful position near the beach. We are always welcomed there, when visiting, and we see him regularly. His life is as fulfilling as it can be in the circumstances and we are very grateful.
