It is important to separate the care side from the business side in reviewing Gwen Walford (GW). The carers I met are kind, fantastic, hard-working under-paid individuals, and the level of care is very high. However, the business side has signally failed to provide any support whatsoever with respect to the Covid pandemic. During more than 2 years of isolation where visitors of bed ridden patients could not visit, GW has done absolutely nothing to keep families connected, despite saying the opposite on their website. The business side refuses to invest in fixed phone lines to individual rooms, or even one single tablet in order for patients to receive video calls. Nor have we received one single photo of our family member from them. You still have to phone the office and hope someone will be kind enough to answer and bring up a cordless phone in order to speak to your family member. We have spoken to owners of other care homes about this, and were informed that this was both disgraceful and not normal. This is how you maximise the rewards for the shareholders. Unbelievable.
