: My mother had been a patient at this surgery for 68 years. She rarely asked anything of them or needed an appointment. A former GP here he would see her once a year for a review, when she became seriously ill this same GP (who died in 2020) insisted on seeing her everyday, when she asked why? He replied he knew she would not contact him to say she was unwell and so insisted on seeing her daily until she was out of the woods. When one of the doctors was in charge, he even came to our new house just to see where we moved to and that we were ok. Over the last years the surgery has gone downhill. She had meningitis and they wouldn’t come and see her and didn’t even diagnose it until she was on the mend. She has osteoporosis and they had her on a medication for 35 years that she should have only been on for 5 years and has resulted in her jaw crumbling. I have been trying to convince my mother to change surgeries for years as we as a family felt that when she did need to be seen she was being treated dreadfully. Last week I phoned to get an appointment as she was so ill, I spent 40 minutes waiting to speak to somebody, when I finally got through it was to be told they were at capacity and I had to phone 111. I tried to explain my mother is nearly 90 and had a heart condition and needed to be seen but the person I spoke to just wasn’t interested. We phoned 111 and spoke to a very nice helpful man who told me to take my mother to clinic 9 at 19:45. We did take her and she ended up waiting to be seen until 22:45 and when she did she was told she had a very nasty chest infection. Nobody of nearly 90 should be treated this way and kept out to this time of night to be seen. She nearly decided to change surgeries after that and then decided not to, as for some reason she felt that she had always been treated by this surgery from when she came to Cambridge. Last Thursday she needed to get a repeat prescription so she phoned the surgery and after a wait spoke to the same person as the week before who dismissed her saying she’d have to fill in a form on the website, a woman of nearly 90 expected to go on line. She then told the person that the pharmacist had told her to call if she had her blood pressure taken to give them the reading as they just discovered after a year of her being ill that her thyroid problem had deteriorated, she was supposed to have regular blood tests for her thyroid as directed by the hospital which hadn’t been followed up and the reply was send an email. After this phone call my mother has decided that after 68 years she’s out. She has been treated so badly & she has suffered at their hands from neglect numerous times since the departure of her last GP, Dr Hughes. She was recently seen by a female GP who was incredibly rude and despite being told my mother was allergic to many antibiotics went ahead and prescribed one of those to her! We as a family are so disgusted by the treatment she has received at the hands of this surgery and are so relieved that she has finally seen the light and changed surgeries. Nobody should be treated the way she has. If you decide to join this surgery please be aware, especially if you are vulnerable. I just hope this review stops at least one person being treated as badly as my mother has been but I seriously doubt it. This surgery used to be run by doctors and staff who cared about their patients unfortunately this can no longer said about The Red House Surgery.

Patchy, ok if you get the right person. Most of the doctors talk down, infantilize and use silly euphemisms instead of straight talking using commonly known medical terms. I've had calls promised which did not happen, serious blood test results overlooked and a mental health misdiagnosis. It seems you have to really fight to get what you need - luckily I worked in the NHS for years and can feel assertive enough to not get fobbed off.
