My father had been rushed to A&E following the deterioration of his health. He was admitted to the AMU. I called in the early hours of the morning for an update. I was told it was an inconvenient time to call for an update and to call back at 7 am. Being a nurse, I know that 7 am is a very busy time for wards. Care is a 24 hrs service and family members should be able to call at any time within reason to get updates of loved ones. |

The trust really need to sort out the car parking. It is just a nightmare. After 30 minutes waiting I had to leave the car on a curb. The car park is not registering when people are leaving, it is a complete disaster today. 17.10.23 |

Had a near 3 week stay in b14 and experienced ups, downs and very little sleep. All of the staff were very accommodating, polite, professional and caring. I was 99% self caring and required very little intervention, but due to a “system issue” my medication timings needed constant alterations for the first week but it was eventually sorted out. It took nearly a whole week to get my notes from Shrewsbury hospital so I had no idea what treatment I was going to receive. Whilst all doctors were polite and professional very few followed up with any kind of update and it always fell upon me to chase updates. The ward sisters kept me as updated as they could and all nurses require medals for the work they do, they even arranged some home leave for my final weekend as I was only receiving IV antibiotics and I commuted from home to the ward. All the staff were brilliant, at times very rushed but still tended to our every need. A stand out nurse appeared on 28th October, and spent time chatting with me, an absolute superstar who couldn’t be any more helpful if she tried. I’ve singled this one nurse out because they took time out just to have a chat, having had no visits during my stay was extremely welcome to talk to someone about life outside of my treatment. Now for some negatives: The lighting situation is a joke, how are you meant to sleep when any movement in the rooms/bays sets off the automatic lights, this has been an ongoing problem for months! Being woken at 0610 for a cup of tea is downright offensive, the drug round doesn’t need to happen at 6am and done before the day staff handover. Constant alarms left buzzing and beeping for hours, this was operates an open door policy meaning all doors must be propped open by the bins, so when a fresh and excited morning shift arrives the noise is overwhelming. I understand how medication works and know that medication doesn’t care what time it is and is only because the day shift expect the morning drugs round to be done prior to handover. Food choice was poor, especially for a cardiac ward, I was offered 1 salad in nearly 3 weeks, had fruit offered twice and despite asking, orange juice was never available. Butter is the default spread for toast and the meals offered very few healthy options. Overall, great staff but bad practices, bad food choice and terrible maintenance. |
