The care kindness and compassion my mother received at Brampton Community hospital was excellent. My mother was admitted into a 'step up bed' for end of life care. My mothers condition had deteriorated very quickly over a 48 hour period prior to admission to Brampton. The district nurse and GP worked well together to ensure she was transferred from residential care to an appropriate care setting. Both my mother and her family were treated with such kindness, dignity and respect. We were involved and consulted with on all decisions relating to her care. We were given time and privacy with her over those last few days and were supported throughout. Due to my mothers condition being so poorly we were given open access to stay with her anytime and that time was so precious. It was such a sad and difficult time for us as a family but the staff were so caring and always had a smile and a kind word to say. The nursing and medical staff level of care and their support was excellent. One may have thought that out of hours and weekends that support may be difficult for a GP led community hospital. This was not the case in our experience as when out of hour care was required, escalation was made and the out of hours GP service supported the staff, reviewed my mothers plan of care and we saw examples of this on an evening and weekend. My mothers room due to its location was very private and that gave her and her family lots of privacy and allowed us all as a family to be together. Both my mothers room and the rest of the hospital was very tidy and spotlessly clean. I observed cleaning taking place throughout the day, evening and weekends. We nearly lived at the hospital for seven days and in that time met a range of staff in different roles from, GP's, ward sister, nurses, nursing assistants, therapists, receptionist, cleaners, estates staff and catering staff. Every person we met treated us all so kindly and with genuine concern and compassion. The team at Brampton are very special as is the service they provide for their local community.
